The HALS Report was compleated early in 2016 to map the stones and the surrounding environment of Potter's Field. It was conducted by graduate students of Landscape Architecture from the University of Berkeley. Part of the report is a map of the stones, which allows us to better relocate misplaced stones.
From their calculations there are 698 numbered stones. 322 blank stones, 7 headstones bringing the minimum number of bodies in Potter's Field to 1,027. We say minimum because we know some of the stones are missing or stolen and the chances are great that there could be multiple bodies under any one stone. Our best guess for the known portion of Potter's Field is that it actually contains closer to 1,700 bodies total. For the unknown portion of Potter's Field the number of bodies is unknown, however our best guess is that it could be between 300 - 500.
